ZIG-ZAG
This concept again looks for an interesting and economical roof form that expresses warehouse. The "sawtooth" clerestory is a provocative silhouette that has great appeal. This section of the façade has been expressed as an independent building, with the repeating rhythm of the "loading bays" (in steel or cinderblock). The interior would be greatly enhanced with the natural lighting effect of the clerestory, creating a truly exciting interior experience.
On the far left is a bold simple block, shown here as gridded concrete, either cast or installed in panels. The surface of the concrete is left raw (sealed for graffiti) and is punctuated with the holes usually left from the casting forms (used here for decorative effect). The form is intended to provide a neutral, functional-modern contrast to the other two elements.
The round entry vestibule is depicted as transparent glass or translucent acrylic panels, illuminated perhaps with theatrical lighting (which could make for a very fun focal icon). There are many interesting ways to treat the "skin" of the drum, translucent or not, such as bands of metal or colored glass. As stated above, this could be achieved in a wide variety of materials with very successful results. Illumination could also be enhanced with exterior lighting effects. Similarly there are a variety of ways to outline the form that supports the glazing.
An assemblage of three contrasting volumes, in contrasting materials. Strong. Bold. Animated. Glowing. Practical and business-like, but playful. Shopping might be economical and fun here.
