TECHPORT

This concept tries to make as sophisticated a statement out of the existing architecture as possible. The mission here, as in all of these concepts, is to "upscale" the exterior in a bold, sleek, and modern architectural vocabulary.

The new entry is contained in a pure volume of blue/green, tinted glass, with delicate stainless steel mullions and minimal roof edge detail. This new volume is intended to be part of a group of assembled volumes (the white store volume, the red box, and the glass block).

The sign has again been mounted to the white CMU façade. Here the sign is rendered as internally illuminated red acrylic pan letters, but other options are possible, such as reverse pan, back-lit metal letters out of a brushed stainless steel, or tinted stainless (red, or blue/green).

The red box, intended to be resheathed in new high-gloss metal panels, has been fitted with five oblong shapes (3’ x 11’) that recall the buttons or ventilation openings on some technical equipment. Echoing the shape of the rounded-edged red box, these applied elements (constructed like signage elements) transform the red box into an object that now assumes identity as an icon of equipment or technology.
